Dr. Pareto has more than twenty years of experience starting new business units, turning around operations, and implementing technology solutions, primarily in the energy industry.

From 1987 to 1993, he was Vice President and Director for Devonrue Ltd., an engineering consulting firm, where he started a regulatory compliance practice. His work representing utilities in technical discussions with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission is credited by NUMARC (now the Nuclear Energy Institute) for saving the industry over $100 million in compliance costs.

From 1994 to 1997, he served as Principal in the Global Strategy Group of Gemini Consulting (now Cap Gemini) and in the Energy Practice of Mercer Management Consulting, where he helped Fortune 500 companies launch new business ventures, redesign business processes, and restructure organizations in the US, UK, and Brazil.

Following Mercer, he was recruited into NiSource (1997 – 2013), a $20 billion natural gas transmission, storage, and distribution holding company, where he served in various roles and co-founded a financial services affiliate that grew to become the largest provider of risk management for home services in the U.S. NiSource sold the business to AGL resources in 2013 for $120 million.

After leaving NiSource, he co-invented and patented technology to recycle snowmelt for use in snowmaking operations. He co-founded The Renewable Snowmaking Company to develop the technology and help ski areas save energy, reduce water usage, and minimize their carbon footprint.

Dr. Pareto holds an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management (1994), a Ph.D. in Engineering from MIT (1986), and a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Florida (1981), where he graduated with High Honors. He is a certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt (2012).

Dr. Pareto enjoys playing chess, skiing, sailing, and writing fiction. He is the author of Emma of the Ardennes and The Count of Montferrat, two novels set in IX century Italy. He is a citizen of the US and the European Union (Italy), and is fluent in English and Portuguese. He lives in Georgetown, Massachusetts, with his wife, Gail.
